Home Learning Week Beginning 18th May

Hello Lovely Class 3,

I just want to start by saying how unbelievably proud I am of you all. I know how hard it is for you not seeing your friends and not being in school for such a long time. You are all doing incredibly well and the pictures I am receiving of you smiling, having fun and doing such fantastic work are so impressive. I have posted plenty of work, which should also keep you going over half term too 🙂

I’ve organised a whole school superhero writing competition I’d really like you to have a go at over the coming weeks. You are all such brilliant writers with fantastic imaginations and there is a prize for the best story in each class. There is no rush to submit your entry; this can be something you work on over half term. Click on the link to have a look!

English

I’m going to give you some options for English over the next few weeks. As usual, you can log on to https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom and continue watching the videos and completing the online lessons but I have also put some links to some fun interactive games below.

Please find below links to this week’s spellings, handwriting and spelling wordsearches:

Maths

Please continue to use the White Rose for your daily Maths lessons (there are 2 worksheets each day). Click on the White Rose link to watch the videos. This week, and over half term, I also wanted to give you a real life challenge. Click on the file below to have a go at ‘The Shopping Challenge.’ If you like food and dealing with money – you will love this! You don’t have to complete all of the steps, you can make it as easy or as hard as you like. Enjoy!

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/

Science / PSHE

I would like you to make a leaflet or powerpoint all about ‘A Healthy Lifestyle.’ You can include everything you have learned about healthy eating and the jobs of the different food groups (links to information are on last week’s page so scroll down if you need to) but I would also like you to include information about the health benefits of exercise. Please find information on the links below to help you with that.

7 Days of Kindness

To promote Mental Health Week 2020, take a look at the 7 Days of Kindness Calendar which has some great ideas for spreading a little kindness.

Geography / Art

I would like you to learn more about the continents and oceans of the world. Read the powerpoint and complete the activity worksheet. There is a great website (below) that has lots of fun games on. You can learn more about the different countries of the world and there’s a great link to learning all about different countries flags. Google Earth is also great fun and you can search for different places of your choice. You could also have a go at drawing the different continents and labelling them along with the oceans – getting the sizes right can be a challenge but give it a go!

https://world-geography-games.com/

https://earth.google.com/web/

Music

Music (along with exercise) is a great way to improve mood, so give this lesson a try. I’d like you use the BBC Bitesize lesson below to remind yourselves all about melody and pitch, and singing with emotion. There are 3 activities on there you could have a go at.

You could also have a go at making your own musical instrument. How about a rainmaker to shake on Thursday evening for ‘Clap for Carers?’

What have Class 3 been up to this week?

Home Learning Week Beginning 11th May

Hello Class 3,

I hope everyone is well and enjoyed the lovely weather over the weekend. Every time I receive an email from you, sharing your brilliant work, it really makes my day. Please keep letting me know how you are and what you have been up to. It was great to see so many of you have a go at the rainbow experiment and enjoying the VE learning from last week.

English and Maths will continue with Oak Academy and White Rose. We feel the videos they provide are really helpful to your learning. Just writing the answers on a scrap bit of paper is fine if you don’t have a printer.

English

https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/

Maths – The White Rose website still provide the learning videos but the accompanying worksheets can now be found in the files below. Please keep learning your times tables using TT Rock Stars and don’t forget to log in to My Maths for some fun online Maths Learning. If you have forgotten you login details, please email me on class3@brynoffa.shropshire.sch.uk

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/

This week’s Design and Technology and Science lessons will have a food theme. Last term, we started to learn all about a balanced diet and the different food groups we need to eat to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This week will be all about reminding yourselves about balanced diets and next week I will ask you to make a leaflet or a powerpoint presentation.

Science / PHSE

Begin by watching the video about Healthy Eating then follow the links below

D&T – Pizza Challenge

Can you make a homemade pizza?  What toppings could you use?   What food groups does your pizza contain?

This could be a tricky task with virtually everyone in Britain taking up baking during lockdown so I have some alternative ideas for you all:

Yeast free pizza: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/no-yeast-pizza-dough

Tortilla Pizza: https://cookieandkate.com/simple-tortilla-pizzas/

Flourless Pizza: https://www.eatthis.com/flourless-pizza/

Or, if you have a margarita pizza in the fridge or freezer, why not just add your own toppings onto it?

Perhaps all of your household could make a pizza and then do a blind tasting like they do in the Great British Bake Off?

Check out the pizza expresses website too for some great recipes

Remember to ask for an adults help when using the oven or a knife.

Art / Computing Challenge

The Duchess of Cambridge has launched the ‘Hold Still’ project to create a unique photographic portrait which captures the spirit, mood, hopes, fears and feelings of the nation as we continue to deal with the Coronavirus outbreak.

https://www.npg.org.uk/hold-still/

Anyone at any age can submit a photograph with 100 photographs being short listed to appear in a virtual exhibition. It’s free to enter and there are three categories:

•             Helpers and Heroes

•             Your New Normal

•             Acts of Kindness

The whole school is being set a challenge to take a photograph based on one of these categories and we will show them all in our very own virtual exhibition on the Bryn Offa website from next week.

Please send all photos to class3@brynoffa.shropshire.sch.uk

Hello Class 3,

I hope everyone is well and continuing to enjoy completing some of the work I am setting. Remember, I don’t expect you to do all of it (unless you want to) but it is important you try to do a bit each day. Little and often is a good approach with some fun activities in between.

Class 3 Home Learning Week Beginning 27.4.20

Hello lovely Class 3,

I hope you are all keeping well and have been outside enjoying the glorious sunshine we had last week.

Thank you so much to all of those children I have had messages from and pictures showing me what you’ve been up to. It makes me so happy to see you learning and enjoying yourselves. Please keep sending them to class3@brynoffa.shropshire.sch.uk

Here are some suggestions for this week’s learning – I am aware many of you don’t have printers so I am avoiding as many worksheets as I can. Remember, it’s fine to do the work on any piece of paper you have, on the back of the Learning Packs we sent out before Easter is ideal.

This week, I would like you to use https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/ to access your English home learning. It is a government backed online learning platform that started last week. You will find daily videos to support your English work. Simply click on the link and scroll down to ‘subjects,’ and click on your year group to find the English work each day. There are some great Maths and Topic lessons on there too you could take a look at.

You could also have a go at writing an acrostic poem about one or all of the seasons (spring, summer, autumn or winter) which is your favourite season and what is so special about it?

Below are some examples and a link to BBC Bitesize reminding you what an acrostic poem is:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z4mmn39/articles/ztdvw6f

Research projects for this week:

This week, I would like you to find out about mountains or research an animal of your choice. You could present your work as a fact file, a non-chronological report, or you could type it up on the computer.

Download the links to see some powerpoints and ways you could present your work:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z849q6f/articles/z4g3qp3

Top Tip: Researching is all about reading it => Understanding it => then putting the facts into your own words!

Science – Forces – Can you build a boat that floats?

Watch the video and read the information provided on the below link to learn all about buoyancy:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zc89k7h/articles/zytqj6f

Don’t forget to send me the pictures of your boats – even if they sink!

RE – Christianity / English

Design a leaflet or flyer telling people about the church. Tell them what they will see, and what the church is used for. Remember you are trying to get lots of people to come to the church, so make your leaflet bright, interesting and full of information.

How old is Christianity? Why does it have the cross as its symbol?

BBC Bitesize is an excellent place to start your research. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/z7hs34j

Wednesday 1st April

Hello everyone! I hope you are all keeping well?

Have you seen or heard about these beautiful rainbows that are popping up in windows all around the world? A rainbow is the symbol of hope and promise and they are the prize for weathering the storm 🌈 Whilst you are out and about getting your daily exercise see if you can spot any. Maybe you’ve already made your own rainbow? If so, I would love to see it and if you haven’t made one yet there’s still time for you to get creative.

Whilst my children have been at home they have made a stained glass window rainbow out of tissue paper. I’ve also seen some lovely pictures of children using special window pens to create theirs  (PLEASE don’t just draw on your windows – ask your parents first!) and I’ve also seen some incredible paintings of rainbows! Whatever the idea I would love to see it and when we get back to school I plan on making a whole school display of our rainbows to show everybody how we stayed positive and even though we weren’t together at school we continued to work as one big Bryn Offa family.

If you’ve got a rainbow picture please ask your parents or guardians to take a photo of it and to send it to me at school at the following email address and I will do the rest. Please no pictures of you, just your rainbow 😊

Class5@brynoffa.shropshire.sch.uk

Have fun, look after yourselves and your families and I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Mrs Hartland
