Class 3 Egyptian Day!

What a fantastic day we have had! We started our day creating an Egyptian timeline, learning about pharaohs and Egyptian clothing. We have looked at Egyptian mummies, written our name in hieroglyphics and make clay shabtis and scarabs. We also learnt about home life, played a food game and even made throwing sticks! It has been amazing to spend a day with so many hands-on resources and artefacts – no technology in sight! A big thank you to parents for the most wonderful costumes, the children looked absolutely fabulous!

Year 3 Climbing and Caving

Year 3 had a great day exploring the cave and climbing Llanymynech Rock. They showed great perseverance and determination. Well done Class 3:)

Platinum Jubilee Celebration!

Class 3 joined the rest of Bryn Offa in celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We performed our brilliant 50’s dance ‘Rock Around the Clock’ to the rest of the school and spent the afternoon enjoying fun activities on the field. Take a look at the video below. Happy half term everyone 🙂

World Book Day Fun!

Class 3 had a great time celebrating 25 years of World Book Day. They all looked absolutely fantastic! A huge well done to everyone who took part in our ‘Extreme Reading Competition.’ All entries were shown in today’s assembly and can be seen on the tab at the side of the website. Winners will be announced in tomorrow’s Star of the Week Assembly. Well done Class 3 🙂

Today, Class 3 learned how sound travels. We pretended to be air particles and looked at how quickly sound would travel through solids, liquids and gases. We also played with tuning forks to feel vibrations. Well done Class 3!

Design and Technology – Pasta Salad Designing and Making

Today, Class 3 have designed, made and evaluated their own pasta salads. We made sure our salads were healthy and contained at least 2 vegetables, a choice of pasta, sauce and some protein. We had a great time and the children can’t wait to eat them later 🙂

Children in Need and Christmas Workshop

Class 3 have had a fantastic day dressed up as ‘When I am Older I would like to be…’ for this year’s Children in need. We have also had a Christmas Workshop from Jane the Christian Youth Worker where we learned all about the meaning of Christmas 🙂

Class 3’s Visit from Shropshire Fire Service

On Tuesday 9th November, Class 3 had a visit from Kieran the fireman. The children learnt all about fire safety and even got to wear some of the clothes worn by the firemen!

National Science Week

This week is National Science Week so today, we took part in a whole school live science lesson! Everybody had a go at creating a citrus fruit volcano! You can have a go at home too. First of all we halved our lemon (or other citrus fruit). Then we added: some food colouring with a pipette, a blob of washing up liquid, a teaspoon of Bicarbonate of Soda and then some extra lemon juice.

This Thursday (4th March), Bryn Offa will join millions of children around the World celebrate World Book Day. There will be lots of live events throughout the week you can choose to take part in, including a ‘Bryn Offa Masked Reader’ activity on Thursday, where you can watch the disguised Bryn Offa staff read a page from ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt,’ and try to guess who’s behind the mask – the masks might give you a little clue as to who’s behind them! There is also a ‘Bryn Offa Design a Potato Book Character’ competition – check out the powerpoint below for more details. Home Learning Wednesday 3rd March

English – Today, I would like you to watch the ‘Once in a Lifetime’ video again. Think about ways you could describe the turtle giving clues as to what animal you are describing without actually saying ‘turtle.’ I would then like you to have a look at the ‘What am I?’ poems on the powerpoint. Can you have a go at writing one about the turtle? Or, if you prefer choose an animal of your choice to describe. Don’t worry if you can’t make it rhyme, but it would be amazing if you can! Use the worbanks to help with your word choices 🙂

English – Great work on the last few weeks work on ‘How Do Bees Make Honey?’ Class 3, you produced some really fantastic explanation texts. In today’s lesson, we will be learning about ‘The Rainforest.’ We will do some work on vocabulary – can you work out what the unfamiliar words mean? PE- For today’s PE lesson, I would like you to try and go for a nature walk. See what interesting wildlife, plants, trees and flowers you can see. Take some photos and send them to me. If you can’t get out for a walk, maybe you could go into the garden. What interesting parts of nature can you see there? If you need a little break from your screen, find a space and do some star jumps, run on the spot and touch your toes. You can do this throughout the day to make sure you’re keeping your body active as well as your mind.

Home Learning for Tuesday 5th January

Hello Class 3,

Happy New Year to you all! I hope you’ve had a nice Christmas – I would love to hear all about it if you’d like to send me an email telling me what you’ve been up to. I’m so sorry we can’t all be together in Class 3 at the moment, but I know you will be working super hard at home and make me very proud of you. Here are some lessons to keep you busy; each day we will be doing the same lessons in class. You can use the purple book you were given last term, take some photos and email me your work (class3@brynoffa.shropshire.sch.uk). I would love to see how well you have done and please ask me any questions if you need help; I will reply as soon as I can.

In English, we had started to look at ‘The Hodgeheg’ by Dick King Smith. Today, I’d like you to re-cap Chapter One by either listening to the story on the link below or reading it for yourselves on the worksheet. Answer the questions carefully by looking through the text and highlighting the answers if you can. Please also log on to ‘Bug Club’ and keep up with your daily reading – if any of you have lost your login details, please send me and email.

Spellings – This week Year 2 will be learning words ending in ‘-er’, ‘-ed’ and ‘-est’ and Year 3 are focusing on words with a short ‘i’ sound ending in ‘y’. Today, I would just like you to concentrate on learning the rules for your year groups spellings patterns by working your way through the powerpoints. Spelling worksheets to follow over the coming days.

Science – this term we are learning all about plants. I would like you to watch the Oak Accademy lesson which will teach you about variables (things you can change) and will help you to understand the conditions plants need to grow. There are worksheets to go with the video. Please complete and send me some pictures of what you’ve learned.

Rainbow Day for Children in Need

Class 3 looked fantastic all dressed up in their rainbow clothes for Children in Need. Well done everyone 🙂

Climbing and Caving

The Year 3 children had a wonderful time today on their climbing and caving experience. Every child showed great determination and challenged themselves and I am so proud of them all. What a fantastic ‘can do’ attitude.
